If the Alak Huskies were riding high off their 55-19 takedown of the Kali Wolverines last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Alak was beaten by Nunamiut 82-48 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Alak has suffered against Nunamiut since February 16, 2019.
When it comes to explaining why Alak lost, one person who can't be blamed is Josiah Henry. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Okpeaha, who scored 11 points.
Nunamiut found their leader in underclassman Tyler Hugo, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. Hugo is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Justus Mulcahy, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Alak's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Nunamiut, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Alak does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Nunamiut will head out on the road to take on Non Varsity Opponent at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. Non Varsity Opponent is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
