II Section V recap September 10, 2013
Richie Estrada of Mountain View ran for the longest rushing play in II Section V this season against Cienega last week. Estrada scampered for 84 yards on the play and finished with 175 on the day as his team topped the Bobcats.
Rincon lost to Marana 51-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Salpointe Catholic's dynamic duo of Andrew Cota and Cameron Denson proved to be unstoppable against Crespi, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cota threw for 163 yards and Denson had 104 yards receiving. Kaelin Deboskie helped Salpointe Catholic's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 45 yards.
The Lancers' dynamic duo of Cota and Denson proved tough for the Celts to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Denson was the best receiver in the league this week as Salpointe Catholic defeated Crespi.
Estrada was the most successful running back in the league this week. Cody Rochon also contributed to the rushing game with 51 yards on the ground.
Cota put up the best numbers in passing as Dennis Bene's team topped Troy Thomas' team.
Leading II Section V in both passing and receiving yards, the Lancers' Cota and Denson have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Cota has thrown for 687 yards this season, while Denson has 18 catches for 402 yards. Ironwood Ridge's Jake Vartanian leads the league in rushing yards with 469.
Mountain View made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 835 from 1,448. The improvement was the result of 21-0 victory over Cienega last week.
