After both having extra time off, The Lincoln Hornets and the Helix Highlanders will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lincoln put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over University City. Given Lincoln's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while University City is ranked 364th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lincoln's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akili Smith Jr., who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Isaiah Grant was another key contributor, gaining 87 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Helix was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Steele Canyon 51-14 at home.
Lincoln's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 University City and 1-7 Wai'anae (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.8% over those games). As for Helix, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Lincoln came up short against Helix in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, falling 28-21. Thankfully for Lincoln, Christian Washington (who rushed for 185 yards and four touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
