Jessica Carr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Karina Montero, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Brooke Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Golden Valley struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Westlake fell victim to Oaks Christian and their airtight pitching crew last Tuesday. They came up short against the Lions, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
The victory got Canyon back to even at 10-10. As for Westlake, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.
Westlake's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Canyon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Canyon keep running through batters, or will the Warriors buck the trend?
Canyon suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Westlake when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will the Cowboys have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
