The Winters Warriors will square off against the Live Oak Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Winters is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Winters had been on a five-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Durham put an end to it on Monday. The Warriors fell 7-2 to the Trojans. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Alli Aguiar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Live Oak let Corning stack four runs on them in the third inning on Tuesday but luckily Live Oak prevailed anyway. The Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 8th.
Melina Jurado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Live Oak got a massive performance out of Meredith Bole, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave Bole a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Farrah Gomez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Live Oak hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Winters' defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Live Oak, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winters hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Winters' way against Live Oak in their previous matchup back in April, as Winters made off with a 12-5 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
