It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Dolphins can now relate to. They fell 35-22 to Sandwich on Thursday. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Dennis-Yarmouth Regional's loss came despite strong showings from Peyton Kellett and Jayden Barber. Kellett picked up 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Barber threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Barber has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played.
Dennis-Yarmouth Regional bumped their record down to 6-4 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Barnstable and 8-2 Salem (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.2% over those games). As for Sandwich, their victory bumped their record up to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional and Nauset Regional will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. Sandwich will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mashpee at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Mashpee is ranked 136th, while Sandwich is ranked 126th).
