If the Niwot Cougars were riding high off their 67-35 takedown of the Fort Morgan Mustangs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Niwot had to suffer through a rough 65-28 loss at the hands of Northridge. While losing is never fun, Niwot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Northridge is ranked 91st).
Despite the defeat, Niwot saw an underclassman step up: Ella Zechman scored four points along with four steals.
Northridge's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samantha Jackson, who scored 17 points along with six assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Jackson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Sophia Carbajal, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Niwot has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Northridge, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Niwot will take on Mountain View at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. As for Northridge, they will be playing at home against Skyline at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
