The Valley Union Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Desert Christian Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Valley Union has given up an average of 14.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Valley Union couldn't beat St. David on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Blue Devils lost 18-4 to the Tigers.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert Christian). They put the hurt on San Miguel with a sharp 19-3 victory on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Vipers: they've now won eight in a row.
Mikayla Hodges made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emmy Welch was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenna Delaney, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Desert Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .882. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Desert Christian's record is now 3-10. As for Valley Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Valley Union might still be hurting after the 25-10 loss they got from Desert Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
