The Notus Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Wilder Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Notus made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Idaho City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates blew past the Wildcats 28-16 on Monday. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Cierra Norris was a standout: she went a perfect 6-for-6 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Willes, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI.
Notus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .776. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Wilder, as they earned their first away victory of the season. Everything went their way against Greenleaf Friends Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 26-10 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
N. Escutia was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Those earned runs marked the first that she tossed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, A. Scott was incredible, firing off six RBI, four doubles, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was S. Longest, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Notus now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Wilder, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4.
Everything went Notus' way against Wilder in their previous matchup back in March, as Notus made off with a 25-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
