Softball Recap: Wellington Extends Winning Streak to Four

Wellington waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Timnath Cubs a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Taylor Morgan was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brookelyn Jones and Camryn Strain did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Strain went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Strain has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Charley Somday, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Wellington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive games.

Wellington's record is now 16-3. As for Timnath, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Wellington will venture away from home to take on Thompson Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Timnath, they will head out to square off against Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.65 runs per game on average), something the Cubs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
