The Hillsboro Hiltoppers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Altamont Indians had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Hillsboro was outmatched by Altamont on the road and fell 66-32. Hillsboro was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-14.
Several Hiltoppers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Stewart, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nathan Matoush, who scored 12 points.
Leading Altamont to victory were Eli Miller and Kaidyn Miller. Miller scored 15 points, while Miller dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Miller has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times he's played. Kade Milleville was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Hillsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Altamont, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Hillsboro will take on Litchfield at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Litchfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. Altamont won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North Clay/Clay City at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. North Clay/Clay City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Altamont is ranked 172nd).
