The Beech Grove Hornets will face off against the Pike Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Beech Grove is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Beech Grove will bounce into Friday's game after beating Speedway, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hornets put the hurt on the Sparkplugs with a sharp 13-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Hornets have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bishop Moore and Isaac Richardson did most of the damage at the plate: Moore went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Richardson went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most runs Moore has posted since back in May of 2025. David Lepper was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Beech Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Speedway only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, Pike came up short against Lawrence Central on Wednesday and fell 5-1.
Lincoln Sigmund put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Sigmund was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Sigmund wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Those stolen bases marked the first that Williams has snagged this season.
Pike's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Beech Grove, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Pike's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Beech Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Pike, though, as they've only averaged .195. Will they be able to contain Beech Grove's hitters?
Beech Grove might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from Pike in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Hornets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
