On Saturday, the Anacostia Indians faced the Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Anacostia fell 53-42 to Friendship Collegiate Academy. Anacostia has not had much luck with Friendship Collegiate Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Anacostia saw an underclassman step up: Nayjah Duvall dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Duvall scored a full 42.9% of Anacostia's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Shayonna Nave was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Leading Friendship Collegiate Academy to victory were Miyazia Harris and Jonae McKnight. Harris went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists, while McKnight scored seven points along with eight assists and eight steals. The match was Harris' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tori Jenkins, who scored eight points.
Anacostia's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Friendship Collegiate Academy, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Anacostia will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Bell at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Bell comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Friendship Collegiate Academy, they will be playing at home against Parkside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Parkside comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
