Even though the Bellevue West Thunderbirds have not done well against the Millard South Patriots recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Bellevue West walked away with a 65-52 win over the Patriots. Given Bellevue West's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Patriots are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bellevue West got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Naomi White out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ahnica Russell-brown, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Bellevue West pushed their record up to 10-6 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Millard South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
Bellevue West won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Lincoln Southeast will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Millard South, they will head out on the road to face off against the Huskies on Tuesday.
