Westfield and Ridge are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Blue Devils will welcome the Red Devil at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Westfield and Bridgewater-Raritan, and Bridgewater-Raritan kept the tradition alive. The Blue Devils lost 28-7 to the Panthers on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, the Blue Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridge). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-20 win over North Brunswick. Winning may never get old, but the Red Devil sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to C.J. Griffith and Nick Pfennig. Griffith rushed for 130 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries while Pfennig rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Griffith has become a key player for Ridge: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. Max Montalvo was another key player, rushing for 50 yards and a pair of scores.
Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 343 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Ridge's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Anthony Valera with two. He has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last four times he's played. Gregory Brown got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Westfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Things could have been worse for Westfield, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-10 loss to Ridge in their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
