Ridgefield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hockinson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spudders are taking a road trip to take on the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Ridgefield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Ridgefield beat Woodland 6-1.
Faith Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madeline Bruguier, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Gracie Olmos also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Ridgefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodland only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, Hockinson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 15-5 to Washougal.
Renee Waddle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Maggie Ritton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Ridgefield is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hockinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
Hockinson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ridgefield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Hockinson, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Ridgefield's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Ridgefield took their win against Hockinson when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 17-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spudders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
