Basketball Game Preview: Weldon Chargers vs. Wilson Prep Tigers

The Weldon Chargers are taking a road trip to challenge the Wilson Prep Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Weldon will head into Tuesday's game after some sweet revenge against Northampton County: Weldon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Northampton County, but still couldn't quite topple them. Weldon took their contest back in December of 2024 with ease, bagging a 55-24 victory over Northampton County. The Chargers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Weldon's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kamya Coles, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 22 rebounds, and Shaelyn Johnson, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Coles is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Wilson Prep challenged Farmville Central on Saturday. Wilson Prep rang in the new year with a 53-41 win over Farmville Central. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Wilson Prep pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Weldon, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything came up roses for Weldon against Wilson Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured an 86-49 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wilson Prep's Nakiya Boston, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 19 points in addition to six boards and three steals.
