Basketball Recap: Vermilion Drops Season-High Score on Columbia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vermilion). They came out on top against the Columbia Raiders by a score of 63-55 on Monday. For the Sailors, this counts as revenge for the 82-50 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2019.

Leading Vermilion to victory were Mason Cooper and Brock Meyers. Cooper went 10 for 24 on his way to 24 points and seven steals, while Meyers went 10 of 16 on his way to 21 points. Cooper is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb German, who posted five points.

Vermilion was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Vermilion now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Columbia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Vermilion will head out to take on Margaretta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Margaretta's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Columbia, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Midview at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
