Basketball Recap: Fernando Romero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Miami Country Day over NSU University

Miami Country Day has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 69-67 heartbreaker at the hands of the NSU University Sharks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (66), the Spartans still had to take the loss.

Miami Country Day's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fernando Romero, who went 10 for 22 en route to 26 points and three steals. Those 26 points gave Romero a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Reid, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists.

Even though they lost, Miami Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

NSU University was led to victory by Sean Jones and Jordan Moshe. Jones dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Moshe went 10 of 14 on his way to 26 points. Justin Rhodes was another key player, putting up six points.

Miami Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for NSU University, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Miami Country Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-62 win against Palmetto on the 29th. As for NSU University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 86-31 victory against Avant Garde Academy on the 28th.
