It was a good run, but Whiteville finally witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak. They came up short against SouthWest Edgecombe on Friday, falling 42-28. The lax defense was uncharacteristic for Whiteville, who until this matchup were averaging 8.27 points allowed.
junior Demari Mabry had a dynamite game for SouthWest Edgecombe; he rushed for 201 yards and two TDs on 16 carries. SouthWest Edgecombe received support from Mabry on the other side of the ball, too, as he amassed 12 tackles. senior Keishon Porter was in the mix, too, providing the Cougars with two touchdowns.
Whiteville's overall record now falls to 9-3. The victory was the ninth in a row for SouthWest Edgecombe and raised their record to 12-1.
Whiteville's playoff loss brings an end to their season. SouthWest Edgecombe will take on Northeastern in each of the teams' third playoff game next week. The stakes are high as these teams both are all in, each fighting to extend its postseason success.
