Burroughs has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Oak Hills Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Burroughs comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Burroughs fell victim to Apple Valley's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 56-0 loss at the hands of the Sun Devils. While losing is never fun, Burroughs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 718th, while Apple Valley is ranked 157th).
Meanwhile, Oak Hills had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 35-24 win over Sultana. Oak Hills pushed the score to 35-3 by the end of the third, a deficit Sultana cut but never quite recovered from.
Oak Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maurice Parker, who picked up 177 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Diego Lopez, who threw for 204 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Burroughs' defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Hesperia and 7-2 Barstow (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.6% over those games). As for Oak Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Burroughs was taken down by Oak Hills 55-0 in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Can Burroughs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
