Basketball Recap: Winthrop College Prep Academy Takes a Loss

If Winthrop College Prep Academy was riding high fresh off their 58-16 takedown of Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans took a blow against the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars on Friday, falling 67-26. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Winthrop College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sanaii Holloway posted ten points. That's the most points Holloway has posted since back in November of 2024.

Academy of the Holy Names found their leader in sophomore Jaye Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Olivia Vargas was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and five boards.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Academy of the Holy Names, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-13.

Winthrop College Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-51 victory against Patel on the 27th. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they will face off against Largo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Academy of the Holy Names is facing Largo at the right time seeing as Largo is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
