The Burton Pumas's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Lincoln, falling 57-8. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burton in their matchups with Lincoln: they've now lost nine in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamelle Newman, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Villegas, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
Burton bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 4.3 points per game. As for Lincoln, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Burton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lincoln will face off against Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
