The Marshwood Hawks will square off against the Sanford Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marshwood will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Marshwood came out on top against Bonny Eagle on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Hawks took their match against the Scots 7-4.
Ronan Garrett made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning two RBI and one run.
Garrett wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hussey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Hussey has posted since back in April. Another was Silas Reimels, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Sanford had just enough and edged out Kennebunk 4-3 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Like Marshwood, Sanford also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Adams. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Adams was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Do, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Scott Robitaille Jr was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Marshwood's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sanford, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Marshwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sanford struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Marshwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Sanford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
