The St.Ignace Saints entered their tilt with the Gaylord Blue Devils with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St.Ignace managed a 68-62 win over Gaylord on Tuesday. Given St.Ignace's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Gaylord is ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Gaylord lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Gelow. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 34 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Gaylord's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cayden Keck, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
St.Ignace pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Gaylord, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St.Ignace will take on Cheboygan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gaylord, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Traverse City West at 7:00 p.m. Traverse City West will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
