Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Homestead). They put the hurt on the Port Washington Pirates with a sharp 12-6 win on Saturday. The Highlanders not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9th (when they won 9-2).
Charlie Blume made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Homestead is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-16 otherwise. Blume was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Pangallo, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Homestead: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Apel, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
