The Canyon Eagles had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Randall 48-7 at home. The result was nothing new for Canyon, who have now won three games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samuel Johnson led the charge by rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Ryan Rivera was another key contributor, rushing for 141 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Canyon's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-6 Greenwood and 2-6 Perryton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Randall, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Canyon will head out on the road to face off against Dumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dumas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Canyon is ranked 240th). As for Randall, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hereford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Brylyn Lopez and Dylan Ray.
