Virgin Valley took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sports Leadership & Management. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Virgin Valley in their matchups with Sports Leadership & Management: they've now lost four in a row.
Virgin Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Gunner Cortez and Chase Otteson. Cortez rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, while Otteson picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Virgin Valley's defense sure didn't make it easy: Sports Leadership & Management's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Alex Valle and his two sacks.
Damien Nevil was his usual excellent self, rushing for 240 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Nevil was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards.
Virgin Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Sports Leadership & Management, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Virgin Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sports Leadership & Management will be playing in front of their home fans against Elko at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Elko is ranked 22nd, while Sports Leadership & Management is ranked 19th).
