Basketball Recap: Winona's Win Ends Ten-Game Losing Streak at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winona). They walked away with a 55-42 win over the Harleton Wildcats on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Winona also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Harleton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drake Phillips went 8 for 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Phillips has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon Johnson, who posted eight points.

Winona's victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5. As for Harleton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Winona didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-35 defeat against East Chambers on the 12th. As for Harleton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 40-39 win against Neches on the 13th.
