The Mount Miguel Matadors had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They breezed by El Cajon Valley on the road to the tune of 40-6. The result was nothing new for Mount Miguel, who have now won eight matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Matthew Barton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 412 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Barton is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Jeremiah Castillo did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 146 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mount Miguel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Christian Lopez and Dominic DeArcos who racked up five sacks between them.
Mount Miguel's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points per game. As for El Cajon Valley, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Miguel will take on Monte Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 769th, while Mount Miguel is ranked 197th). As for El Cajon Valley, they will be playing at home against El Capitan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
