Staples has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. After each having a week off, the Staples Wreckers and the Greenwich Cardinals will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Staples has not done well against St. Joseph recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. Staples breezed by St. Joseph at home to the tune of 49-3.
Caleb Smith had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 111 yards and a touchdown. Jarrett DeLuca and his 83 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Staples' victory.
Meanwhile, Greenwich put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 35-0 victory over Ridgefield at home. That's two games straight that Greenwich has won by exactly 35 points.
Ian Kim was on fire: he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Kim was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
Greenwich's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was John Insinga and his two sacks.
Staples pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Greenwich, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Staples won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, slipping by Greenwich 39-38. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Greenwich's Jack Konigsberg, who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Staples to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
