Cardinal Hayes moved up to 121 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Catholic. The Cardinals were able to move up by besting Fordham Prep 41-20.
Xaverian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 16th to 13th in the league. The Clippers beat Cardinal Spellman 39-35 earlier in the week.
St. Anthony's's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Greg Galligan threw for 157 and 1 touchdown and Michael Russo had 94 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Gowins contributed 170 yards. Nick Esposito helped St. Anthony's' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 22 yards.
The Friars' dynamic duo of Galligan and Russo proved tough for Monsignor Farrell to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Esposito helped St. Anthony's' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 22 yards.
BRANDON COLEMAN was a passing and rushing force as Archbishop Stepinac defeated Iona Prep. He completed 12 passes for 131 yards and also ran for 72 yards. COLEMAN's key target this week was GIANCARLO FURIO, who caught 4 passes for 66 yards.
Bishop Ford's James Esposito and Rodney Gonzales have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Esposito has thrown for 1,631 yards this season, while Gonzales has 45 catches for 784 yards. St. Anthony's' Gowins leads the league in rushing yards with 1,718.
The most important game in Catholic this week will be the match up between Rich Reichert's team and the Crusaders. The Friars enters the contest ranked second in the state, while Archbishop Stepinac ranks 17th.
There should be lots of points scored when St. Anthony's and Mike ODonnell's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Friars comes in having scored 344 this season, while the Crusaders have scored 271. St. Anthony's scored 39 points last week as it beat the Lions.
The Friars added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Monsignor Farrell, 39-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for St. Anthony's.
