The Springville Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Guntersville Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Springville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 31-28 victory over Pell City. Winning may never get old, but Springville sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Springville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mahlon Alverson, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Alverson has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last seven times he's played. Jake Conner and his 104 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Springville's win.
Meanwhile, Guntersville put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Albertville 57-16 on the road. Given Guntersville's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Albertville is ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springville's victory bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Guntersville, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
