The Goldsboro Cougars put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Beddingfield 53-52. Given Goldsboro's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Beddingfield is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Goldsboro found their leader in underclassman Aziyah Boyer, who scored 30 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Des'Myah Croom, who scored nine points along with 17 rebounds.
Beddingfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sa'Naiya Coppedge, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Natasha Marshall, who scored 15 points along with six assists and three steals.
Goldsboro's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for Beddingfield, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
Goldsboro will head out on the road to challenge Princeton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Princeton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday. As for Beddingfield, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against North Johnston at 5:45 p.m. North Johnston's defense has only allowed 18.8 points per game this season, so Beddingfield's offense will have their work cut out for them.
