Coahulla Creek has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 21 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Northwest Whitfield on Friday as Coahulla Creek made off with a 61-40 victory.
Coahulla Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gage Voyles led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 13 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists. The match was Voyles' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Ward, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Gilmer unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 85-78 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Murray. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (73), Gilmer still had to take the loss.
Coahulla Creek's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Gilmer, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Coahulla Creek came up short against Gilmer in their previous meeting back in December of 2017, falling 66-54. Can Coahulla Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
