The Lamar County Trojans will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Bacon County Raiders at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lamar County has seven straight victories, Bacon County has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Lamar County strolled past Heard County with points to spare, taking the game 45-28. Given Lamar County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Heard County is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Head, who rushed for 48 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for ten yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Head was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Glover, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Bacon County came up short against Irwin County on Friday and fell 25-14.
The losing side was boosted by Travion Richardson, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Lamar County pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.7 points per game. As for Bacon County, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Lamar County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 241.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bacon County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 238.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
