Softball Game Preview: Westwood Redhawks vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers

The Westwood Redhawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Andrew Jackson Volunteers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Westwood took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Spring Valley. That looming 13-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Redhawks yet this season.

Annarea Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Azaria Belton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Griffin Ella was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.

Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

While Andrew Jackson didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Cheraw by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday.

Andrew Jackson pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Westwood, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-11 record.

Westwood came up short against Andrew Jackson when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 11-6. Can the Redhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
