The Landrum Cardinals had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.9 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They walked away with a 67-60 victory over Blacksburg. Given Landrum's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landrum's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Franklin Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Colby Walker, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Blacksburg still got an impressive performance from Ziyon Harris, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. Saad Lavender was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Landrum's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. As for Blacksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
Landrum will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenville Tech Charter has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 18. As for Blacksburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greer Middle College knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matchups -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge.
