The Milton Panthers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Gulf Breeze 47-29. Given Milton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Gulf Breeze is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Treymar Jones, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jones is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mateo Robinson, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Gulf Breeze had strong showings from Michael Bailey, who scored 8 points, and Alex Dirck, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds.
Milton's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Gulf Breeze, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milton will challenge Pensacola at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pensacola focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. As for Gulf Breeze, they will head out on the road to face off against Crestview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Crestview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
