The Pleasanton Blu-Jays will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's-Colgan Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Pleasanton humbled Northern Heights with a 40-6 victory. The win was just what Pleasanton needed coming off of a 55-14 loss in their prior contest.
Kam Staton and Tony Gillespie were among the main playmakers for Pleasanton as the former threw for 229 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes and the latter picked up 164 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Gillespie's longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's-Colgan put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They didn't even let Uniontown onto the board and left with a 60-0 victory. Given St. Mary's-Colgan's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Uniontown is ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cooper Simmons, who rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Klayton Adamson was in the mix too, providing St. Mary's-Colgan with two touchdowns.
Pleasanton's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for St. Mary's-Colgan, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Things could have been worse for Pleasanton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 33-16 loss to St. Mary's-Colgan when the teams last played back in October of 2019. Can Pleasanton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
