St. Helena had won six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 18-4 to make it seven. They blew past the Middletown Mustangs 13-3. Considering the Saints have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ada Blanton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, St. Helena got a big performance out of Lillian Grimes, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Grimes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malia Lund, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
St. Helena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middletown only managed four hits.
As for Middletown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured eight defeats in a row.
On Middletown's side, Bev Fetters made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That hit marked the first that Fetters has got this season.
