Mays waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins...and they left with three. They put the hurt on the South Cobb Eagles with a sharp 18-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jaliyah English was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned (and four unearned) runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The eight batters struck out tied her high from August 19th vs. Therrell. English was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 while posting 4 RBIs and 2 doubles.
In other pitching news, English also looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned (and four unearned) runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The eight batters struck out tied her high from August 19th vs. Therrell.
Back at the plate, Mays let Arianna Flowers and Jacariah Couch run wild. Flowers went 1-for-3 while logging 3 stolen bases, 3 runs, and 1 RBI, while Couch got on base in three of her four plate appearances while logging 2 stolen bases, 3 runs, and 2 walks. The three runs were her most since August 5th, when she scored four vs. Morrow. The team also got some help from Autumn Spriggs, who went 1-for-4 while posting 3 RBIs, 3 runs, and 1 stolen base.
Mays took advantage of their speed and finished the game with 15 stolen bases. They have not posted that many stolen bases since September 14th, when they snagged 20 vs. South Atlanta.
On South Cobb's side, Lianey William was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in both of her plate appearances while logging 2 stolen bases, 1 run, and 2 walks.
Mays has now won seven of their last eight games on the road. That's given a solid lift to their 15-8 record this season. The road victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for South Cobb, they have been struggling for a while as they've lost 19 of their last 21 matchups, dating back to last year. That leaves them at a 2-18 record this season.
Mays will host Druid Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Cobb, they will head out to challenge Alexander at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
