Baseball Game Preview: Lecanto Panthers vs. The Villages Charter Buffalo

Lecanto is 2-8 against The Villages Charter since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Panthers will face off against the Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lecanto is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Nature Coast Tech with a sharp 13-2 win on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Trey Hendrickson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Lecanto is 2-1 when Hendrickson posts two or more runs, but 3-14 otherwise. Luke Pitzer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Hendrickson wasn't the only one making solid contact: Lecanto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, The Villages Charter had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came out on top against the Ascenders by a score of 4-1.

Matthew Wolfinger looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samuel Craig was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lecanto's record now sits at 5-15. As for The Villages Charter, their record is now 18-4.

Lecanto skirted past The Villages Charter 9-8 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
