Lafayette and Bell are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. Lafayette will venture away from home to challenge Bell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette will be strutting in after a victory while Bell will be coming in after a defeat.
While Lafayette's win against Suwannee wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lafayette sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Suwannee on Thursday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Khloe Crotts made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Clara Knight was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Lafayette lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Bell might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Madison County who claimed the real prize. Bell fell just short of Madison County by a score of 6-4.
Alaina Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Bell saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jodi Waddle, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bell, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Bell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lafayette hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Bell, though, as they've only averaged .251. Will they be able to contain Lafayette's hitters?
Lafayette was able to grind out a solid victory over Bell in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lafayette since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
