Basketball Recap: Wilcox-Hildreth Takes a Loss

Wilcox-Hildreth lost against Axtell two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons were outmatched by the Axtell Wildcats and fell 66-37. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wilcox-Hildreth lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kaleb Johnson, who posted nine points and five boards. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Thomas Donley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wilcox-Hildreth smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Axtell had a senior duo take command as Jacob Halvorsen dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards and Brandt Modlin dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. Modlin has become a key player for Axtell: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least ten boards, but 1-8 otherwise. Elijah Bergstrom was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Wilcox-Hildreth's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Axtell, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Falcons face off against the Eagles on Tuesday. As for Axtell, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Loomis at 7:30 p.m. Loomis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.1 points per game this season.
