Irvine is 0-5 against Laguna Beach since March of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Vaqueros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Breakers at 3:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Irvine comes in on three and Laguna Beach on four.
Irvine is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past St. Margaret's 21-4 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Roshan Patel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Irvine is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise. Patel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ethan Kim was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Rogers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Irvine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Laguna Beach made easy work of University on Friday and carried off a 12-3 victory. The Breakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Like Irvine, Laguna Beach also got a great game from a two-way player: Dylan Yencho. Throwing, Yencho tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Aaron Crosby struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Yencho has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. At bat, Yencho went 2-for-4 with four runs and two doubles, while Crosby went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Wicker, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. Bear Ward was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
The win got Irvine back to even at 12-12. As for Laguna Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Irvine has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Laguna Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Irvine came up short against Laguna Beach when the teams last played back in March of 2025, falling 4-0. Can the Vaqueros avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
