Pine River-Backus had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it four. They lost 19-2 to the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Pine River-Backus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Koal Oberfell, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Wadena-Deer Creek, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
On Wadena-Deer Creek's side, Kobe Syder and Connor Dutke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Syder pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dutke struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Wadena-Deer Creek is undefeated when Dutke allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Syder went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Dutke went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ben Krekalu was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carson Davis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Pine River-Backus will host Laporte at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wadena-Deer Creek, they are taking a road trip to challenge Sebeka at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
