McQueen hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lancers are taking a road trip to square off against the Tigers at 3:45 p.m.
McQueen is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Carson, who was ranked 23rd at the time (McQueen was ranked 14th). The Lancers fell 10-5 to the Senators on Thursday.
Lilly Fanene and Anna Wangberg did some serious damage despite the final result: Fanene went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Wangberg went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddie Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Douglas made easy work of Galena on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
Camryn McLelland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. McLelland was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Ava Gildea was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Hill, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Douglas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive games.
Douglas is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for McQueen, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McQueen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McQueen might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Douglas when the teams last played on April 9th. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
