AAA District 8 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Lawrence County moved up to 153 from 187 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA District 8. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Hardin County 13-12.
Tullahoma's dynamic duo of Justin Brown and Trey Burks proved tough for Warren County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns and Burks had 48 yards receiving. Cole Potter helped Tullahoma's passing attack out by catching four balls for 32 yards.
Layton Wells was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 107 yards on 21 carries as Franklin County bested the Pioneers. Teammate A. J. Blackwell added to the ground attack by rushing for 20 yards.
Tullahoma's Brown and Zane Price have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 1502 yards this season, while Price has 35 catches for 506 yards. Wells from the Rebels leads the league in rushing with 795 yards.
Two of the top units in AAA District 8 will face off this week when Franklin County takes on Columbia Central. Coach Carr's team's offense has scored 289 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Lions have allowed only 158 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Columbia Central takes on the Rebels. At the moment, Hal Murrell's team is in first, while Franklin County is in third.
Lawrence County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,698 from 6,934. The advance stemmed from a 13-12 victory over the Tigers last week.
