Basketball Recap: Colorado Academy Comes Up Short

Colorado Academy lost against Kent Denver back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The match between the Colorado Academy Mustangs and the Kent Denver Sun Devils didn't end well, with the Colorado Academy Mustangs falling 84-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (60), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Colorado Academy still got an impressive performance from Clyde Love, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 17 points along with eight assists and four steals. The game was Love's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Mattias Pereira also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Love wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Colorado Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. This was only their sixth loss (out of 19 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Kent Denver's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elvis Lloyd led the charge by shooting 53% from the field en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Fay, who posted 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Colorado Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Kent Denver, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.

Colorado Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-31 win against Eagle Ridge Academy on the 27th. As for Kent Denver, they will face off against Steamboat Springs at 5:00 p.m. on March 7th. One thing working in Kent Denver's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.
